Ice Maker Not Working? Complete Troubleshooting Guide
Diagnose and potentially fix ice maker problems before calling for service.
Ice maker issues are among our most common service calls. Many problems have simple solutions you can try first.
No Ice Production
Check the Basics: - Is the ice maker turned on? Look for a switch or arm. - Is the water supply connected and valve open? - Is the freezer cold enough? (0°F or below) - Is the ice bin full, triggering the shutoff?
Water Supply Issues: - Check for frozen water lines (especially in winter) - Inspect the water inlet valve filter for clogs - Verify water pressure is adequate
Small or Misshapen Ice
Usually indicates water supply restriction or improper freezing temperatures. Check water filter (may need replacement) and verify freezer temperature.
Ice Tastes Bad
- Old ice absorbs freezer odors - empty and clean the bin
- Replace water filter
- Clean ice maker components
- Check freezer for odor sources
Leaking
- Ice jams in the chute
- Cracked ice bin
- Faulty water inlet valve
- Frozen/cracked water line
